Image
Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has alleged that he was offered N5 billion to coordinate the impeachment of his principal. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ehie claimed he has evidence of the bribe offer stored on his phone. “I can also open my phone to show you, in the beginning of October 2023, when they approached me with a bribe of N5 billion. It is here in my phone, “It was for impeachment. It’s here. I have it and I have printed it and distributed it, in case, in their evil imagination, they decide to attack me. I already have a son and a brother,” he said. Ehie said the offer was made while he was serving as the majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The Chief of Staff also denied claims that he orchestrated the October 30, 2023, bombing of the Rivers Assembly complex on Fubara’s orders. Concerns Over Plan by Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas to Announce Local Government Sole Administrators.

Image
Concerns have surfaced regarding an alleged plan by Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State appointed by President Bola Tinubu, to announce new Local Government Area (LGA) Administrators on Monday, March 24, 2025. This purported move has sparked alarm, as it appears to contravene both the Nigerian Constitution and a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the autonomy of LGAs.  The Nigerian Constitution, under Section 7, explicitly mandates that local governments must be governed by democratically elected councils. This provision ensures that grassroots governance remains accountable to the people. Reinforcing this, a recent Supreme Court ruling explicitly affirmed LGA autonomy, declaring that local governments must be led by elected officials, not appointed administrators. Any attempt by Vice Admiral Ibas to appoint LGA administrators would directly violate this constitutional requirement and disregard the judiciary’s authority, constituting a serio...

No Senator Needs The Permission of the Senate President to Express an Opinion in an interview on a Topical Matter of National interest, Said Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson

Image
Today at the sitting of the Senate, the issue of the President’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State came up for discussion and as I have stated repeatedly, I raised my objections in the closed session on how the declaration fell short of constitutional prescription, based on my view as a Democrat, sworn to uphold the Nigerian constitution. The Senate did not undertake the debate in an open session however, it was quite robust. I want to thank Sen. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for his strong support of the unconstitutionality of the declaration, especially the aspect that deals with the suspension of the elected officials of the Rivers State government. At the end of the day, majority of the senators supported the proclamation as no room was given for an open debate at plenary. I left the plenary before the Senate President was directed to report the outcome because I didn’t want to be present while what I opposed is being reported. I believe Senator Tambuwal, Senator Abaribe...

Read this story with me Sometimes ago I met a woman who has so many burdens to bear, after moving closer I discovered that she was helping so many people to carry their heavy luggage, at first I had thought how could this be, then I realized that there are few born for the purpose of service to God and humanity, one thing is that you cannot even talked to her to stop helping people, because in doing so lies her pleasure. In 2018 before the 2019 election, this woman and her husband came on a health mission in Ifo/ Ewekoro federal constituency, thousands of people were screened medically, eye glasses provided those with impaired eye sight, drugs administered to those with health related issues, millions of Naira was expended on the people of Ifo/ Ewekoro, what a huge investments. I have lost counts of those who approached this same woman with sorry case and she came through for them, the most shocking is the fact that she is never a fan of people saying thank you, she tries all she could...

Image
Recognizing the fact that the ongoing political turbulence in Osun State has reached a crescendo that necessitates the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP ) as an opposition party to intervene and call for peace in the struggle for the control of Local Government Administration by APC and PDP. While NNPP as a leading opposition party is not interested in the political shenanigans of both the PDP and the APC, we are however appealing to the Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke and the Minister and former Governor of Osun State, His Excellency,Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola.to make sure that they restore peace back to Osun State by cautioning their followers and party members to be patience enough to allow the peaceful enforcement of judicial pronouncements      at the apex Court. The  New Nigeria People's Party made it clear that wanton waste of precious lives and properties brings to remembrance the horrific scenario of the 1965/66 wil...
